Gone are the sharp edges and jutting planes of styles from former eras; instead, designers of everything from cars to computer monitors have adopted a cornerless style of smooth surfaces and curves that is more ergonomic, conforming to the shape of the body rather than flaunting shape for its own sake.

(A) more ergonomic, conforming to the shape of the body rather than flaunting shape
(B) more ergonomic, conformed to the body's shape and not to flaunting shape
(C) ergonomic, more conformed to the shape of the body and not to shape flaunted
(D) ergonomic, conforming more to the body's shape rather than shape flaunted
(E) ergonomic, conforming more to the shape of the body than flaunting shape

Please explain why are the wrong options wrong.

Hi,
we must keep the same tense in the whole sentence, though here to make it difficult the length of the sentence has been increased; from the beginning of the sentence jutt(ing) gives us the mood of the sentence and the tense, then we must use conform(ing) to maintain the flow, thereafter we would use flaunt(ing), here option B,C ,D are out of the picture. now we are left with A and E. in E more would be better suited with rather than, instead of only than

therefore we end up with A.

Preet, unfortunately I don't think you are looking at the right type of error for this question.

Although I need more studying on modifiers before I can adequately provide explanations to break this answer down, I know that "conforming to the shape of the body rather than flaunting shape for its own sake" is a modifier and parallelism is not being tested here.

I'll mark this question and come back to it after more studying on the subject.
