Hi, I guess the fastest approach is plugging here,

option B :

if I take 1 litre of white paint, i will have 300*3- 3 parts of white with me
if I take 1.5 litre of black paint, i will have 300*5- 5 parts of black with me


total qty of solution = 2.4 litres which is > 2litres

thus B is the answer.

White Paint Requirement = (3/8)*2 = 3/4 = 0.75 gallons
Black Paint Requirement = (5/8)*2 = 5/4 = 1.25 gallons

If we consider purchase of minimum gallons of paint..
- 1 gallon of white paint would suffice.
- 1.5 gallons of black paint would suffice.
- Total 2.5 gallons would be needed. (B)

But we are allowed to buy only .5 gallons, so it has to be 1.00:1.50 =2.5 Gallons

White Paint= 3X2/8= 3/4 gallons= 0.75 gallons
Black Paint= 5X2/8= 5/4 gallons= 1.25 gallons

So the least amount of paint that can be bought is 1 gallon for white paint and 1+0.5 gallon for black paint.

Total= 2.5 gallons.

Let's calculate how much is needed for 2 gallon mixture first.
= (3/8)*2 = 0.75 gallon -- Paint1
= (5/8)*2 = 1.25 gallon -- Paint2

Now round up to nearest 1 gallon or .5 gallon

Paint1 = 1.0 gallon
Paint2 = 1.5 gallon
Total Paint = 2.5 gallon (ANSWER)
