mixture issue

In a container C1 water:milk ratio is 3:2 and in C2 water:milk ratio is 4:1. Both mixtures are emptied into a 3rd container C3. What will be the ratio of water:milk in C3.

I think there is some part missing in the question.

If I consider that equal quantity of mixture is emptied into C3 conatainer, then following is the approach.

C1 Container--

Say water is 3 ltr., so milk would be 2 lit., & hence total mixture would be 5 lit.

C2 Container--

Say water is 4 ltr., so milk would be 1 lit., & hence total mixture would be 5 lit.

C3 Container--I consider that equal quantity of mixture is emptied

Total water would be 3+4=7 ltr., & milk would be 2+1=3 lit., & hence water:milk ratio would be 7:3, & not 3:7.

thank you for your reply...and yes your approach is correct on the following line

If I consider that equal quantity of mixture is emptied into C3 conatainer, then following is the approach.

just a little more help on this question....if the mixture was not of equal quantity but ratios...how will I approach this question....for example of mixing ratio was 4:3...then answer will be....kindly help....:)

Say water is 4/(4+3)=4/7 ltr., so milk would be 3/(4+3)=3/7 lit., & hence total mixture would be 1 lit.

Now, since C1:C2::2:1. Hence, 2 lt. of C1, & 1 lt. of C2 will be mixed.

C3 Container--

Total water would be 3/5*2+4/7=62/35 ltr., & milk would be 2/5*2+3/7=43/35 lit., & hence water:milk ratio would be 62:43.
