I used to knw a simple formula for solving 'mixture problems' - all one had to do was jst plug in the values. does ne1 know this formula. pls hlp.

Its called alligation ... it helps a lot in solving Mixture related problems, its very easy to understand .. just Google it , you should get plenty of articles on it, if you don't understand them let me know.

Hi, I got this from mgmat, its not really a formula, it involves drawing a table
I find it very useful and supereasy; just plug in your values and add!

gabrial,

trying to understand how to extend the formula to 3 solution mixture. I remember getting a question with 3 different fat contents mixed to to obtain a desired outcome.

any inputs with a 3 solution mixture problem

Hi,
I believe it should still work the same. You would just need to add an additional row & column for the extra item.
Is the question from any of the OGs?

Can you demonstrate with an example? I did not understand that grid in the picture.

If you can solve a 2 solutions question , I will try and implement on a 3 sol mixture.

Mixture Formula from Kaplan

This was a formula I came across in Kaplan and it seems to work with all the mixture problems I have encountered so far.

(percent diff b/w the desired soln and the weaker soln) * (amt of weaker soln) = (percent diff b/w the stronger soln and the desired soln) * (amt of stronger soln)

ACTUALLY IN THIS CASE YOU NEED TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM THIS WAY

(40 x x + 60 x y )/100
where x and y are the quantities in each and 40 and 60 represents the percentage....
I have found many problems related to mixture in various post....go through it ..it willl really help..
