A function f(x) is defined for a real variable x, as f(x) = max{ 3x+8, 25 - 4x, 12 -x}. The minimum possible value of f(x) is

1) - infinity

2) 11

3) 23/3

4) 107/7

5) 25

Is this a real GMAT question? It seems unclear to me what it's asking to do.

-Infinity seems kind of obvious as a minimum value of anything, but that's too easy I think. Where do the other answer choices come from?

it is mentioned as max{} in the f(x) definiton. :)

- infinity is not the answer...
