Hi chipbmk,

Identify the TYPE and DIRECTION of the conclusion.

X will happen = positive prediction
X will not happen = negative prediction

X should be done = positive recommendation
X should not be done = negative recommendation

X is the case = positive assertion of fact
X is not the case = negative assertion of fact.

In order for an answer choice to parallel the reasoning of the argument in the passage, both the TYPE and DIRECTION of conclusion must match up.

Usually, this will be enough to get to the correct answer.

But if you can only eliminate three choices this way, then look at the evidence next. If the evidence in the passage was analogy, then it has to be analogy in the answer choice; if the evidence in the passage was citation of facts, then so must the correct answer cite facts; if the evidence was reference to expert testimony, then so should the right answer's evidence refer to expert testimony.

do we see these kind of questions on GMAT? I thought they appear on LSAT

I have yet to see a question of this type in any official GMAT materials. However, apparently, some are claiming that GMAT may be increasing the frequency of such questions.

I will check with Kaplan's curriculum design team.

Not that I have heard of. Also, to be clear, GMAT does ask similar parallelism questions in RC. But, no, I have yet to see or hear of a GMAT CR question like this.
