Based on recent box office receipts, the public's appetite for documentary films, like nonfiction books, seems to be on the rise.

a. like nonfiction books
b. as nonfiction books
c. as its interest in nonfiction books
d. like their interest in nonfiction books
e. like its interest in nonfiction books

Please help me answer this question.

IMO C
WE should use 'like' to compare nouns.Here we are comparing public's appetite which is a verb and so as should be used.
Since public is singular we should use 'its' instead of 'their'.

IMO C

a. wrong comparison appetite with books. (WRONG)
b. wrong comparison appetite with books. (WRONG)
c. Correct- proper use of as and singular its because public is singular countable noun (CORRECT)
d. their wrong plural (WRONG)
e. like use for noun comparision. (WRONG)

correct me if i am wrong somewhere.

We are comparing appetite with interest --- Noun comparison
So like will be used

b, c out

A : Appetite with books
D : 'their' for singular use

Only A\C are correct options here
Use of like to compare a clause is wrong.

Documentry films are compared with nonfiction books.
I would go with A.
