MGMAT CAT hit rate vs GMAT Prep

I'm just a couple weeks into my studying for the GMAT and have taken the first GMAT Prep test (Q42, V41 - 680) and the first MGMAT CAT (Q40, V40 - 660).

My total scores are not that different, however my hit-rates within the individual sections were way lower on the MGMAT CAT. For example my RC hit rate on the GMAT Prep was 86% compared to only 58% on the MGMAT CAT. All the hit-rates per catagory were quite a bit lower compared to GMAT Prep (closer to 50% each). Is this typical of the MGMAT CATs?

Individual hit rates do not matter in CAT exams due to the nature of the algorithm. The algorithms in GMATPrep and MGMAT determine which questions you get at any point in time and that's what matters. Hit rates are only useful for analyzing your results in practice sessions.

Depending on how hard the next question is, you may or not get the question right. As such, one algorithm may give you a question that is 50 points harder while another may give you one that is only 10 points harder. Surely the chances of you getting the latter correct is much greater than one the chances of you getting the former correct. Don't worry about hit rates on CATS - that's what you need to understand.
