(a) tells you that Y is +ve
(b) tells you that Y=14 or Y=-8
I agree with this, How ever, I haven't been in a situation before where we can bring in the positive sign from (a) and the number from (b) to decide sufficiency. Is this some thing pretty common or MGMAT'ism?
(a) tells that Y is +ve. It can be anything positive {+3, +5 , +14 } but + 14 might not be in there.
If +14 is in there along with a bunch of answers we can say that the value of Y is +14. If +14 is not there, we cannot tell the value of Y. When we don't know whether +14 exists as one of the value for Y as per A, How can we say the answer is C?
