For a tourist it is essential to know the climate, history, demography, and customs of a place before planning a tour. It is equally necessary to know the standard of living, cost of accommodation, and commuting costs for estimating a budget for a tour.

Be confident and convincing

A travel agent must sound confident so that there are no hesitations in a customers mind. To gain confidence, you must always be alert and attentive to your customer. It is important to listen to the concerns of a potential traveler before offering any solution. If required a written note might also be prepared, so that it not only helps in addressing the concerns,but also reflects your seriousness about your customer.

A travel agent to become successful must be analytical in its approach. All suggestions should be justifiable and wherever possible supported by figures. A numeric analysis or solution is always convincing and easier to explain.

For a travel agent it is essential to be energetic and enthusiastic. Enthusiasm is addictive and could motivate your potential customers to become an actual buyer of your service. Here it needs to be remembered, that travel agency is a service and entirely depends on your level of eagerness. Your energy must be focused in converting your suspect to a prospect. Any person who is willing to proceed on a family vacation is already prepared to buy your service, and it is your responsibility as a travel agent to help arrive at a decision.

For any service industry it is vital to have superior communication skills, both verbal and written. You must be clear in your thoughts and expressions and leave no element of doubt in your customers mind.
