Giving Yourself Enough Time For Your MBA Application

by Stacy Blackman Consulting, Nov 3, 2010

Although some candidates believe they produce their best work under a short period of time, it is not a good decision to try to finish off a set of applications in the last 1-2 weeks. Spreading the work over a period of one month to six weeks allows you to keep a steady pace. Distributing the work allows you to think about the material you may have written; you may think of a better idea to describe certain sections. This will not happen if you are forced to work at a very quick pace. Although it may be difficult, make sure to give yourself enough time on your applications.

Time for peer feedback

Spreading your focus over a longer period makes it easier for peers to provide feedback on your essays if you ask them about it. This additional help can be very beneficial. Its extremely unfair to ask someone to review your work in a short period of time, so make sure to give them time to review the work. Additionally, give yourself enough time to think about their feedback. You should always have enough time to make the suggested changes. You shouldnt just give your essays to friends for a sign of approval. Select individuals who will tell you their true opinions and give yourself enough time to make the changes.

Time for advisor feedback

Lastly, if you decide to work with an advisor for your business school application, make sure you take the additional time into account in your calendar. In certain situations, advisors can add time onto the process because of the extra discussions and feedback. However, you can also potentially save time because your essay will be more focused from the start.
