I think I may have answered you on another forum, but anyhow here goes:
if it fits your goals (and especially since you want to change industries) it makes total sense. Joint degrees do NOT have a lesser reputation than just one degree, because essentially you are doing two separate degrees, so I don't know where you heard that, but it doesn't make much sense to me. What employers will think is a very good question, because some may tend to categorize you as an education guy. But perhaps if this is truly what you want to do, shouldn't you do it after your MBA anyhow (you can after all go into Education Consulting)??

Maybe, but there is a great advantage to being precise. And if you have this double degree you will be one of the most sought out people in the industry... so keep that in mind.. I mean yeah there aren't THAT many jobs, but with those qualifications it will be firms that will be hunting you and not the other way around.

As far as what you miss, from the MBA, from what I've seen a bit of partying and socializing :) (too much homework for degree number 2!)
