MBA in Marketing

by okletsdothis » Fri Jul 08, 2011 9:28 am
Hi,

I have worked for 3 years in advertising and am looking to do my MBA in marketing from USA.

Since i am not an american does it make sense for me to do an MBA in marketing. Reasons why i have this doubt are:

1. Marketing is about selling things to people and if you work for atleast a year or two in the USA, to pay off ur loan, it would be difficult because u do not know the people and its a new country for you.

2. Marketing is not like finance, a subject which you either know or do not know. It is not given prime importance like finance or logistics etc. The job opportunities are also lesser because ur not a local even if you are probably more qualified.

So should i be doing MBA Marketing from a foreign country or may be even change my course ..?

-Regards,

Hi okletsdothis,

Thanks for posting. To address your concerns:

1. A great benefit to an MBA is the network you will build. This isn't just your classmates, but also the school's alumni base. As an example, at the Tuck School of Business, over 50% of its alumni donate to the school. They don't just give money though, they also help with connections to students, etc. The school wants to see you succeed.

2. Although there are a number of finance positions available, there are a lot of great opportunities in marketing as well.

Hope this was of help. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.

Cheers,
