And the wait continues....

"The Berkeley MBA Admissions Committee has now had the opportunity to review once again your application for fall 2009 admission. The committee continues to be impressed with your many accomplishments, and would like to keep your application on the waitlist at this time.

While a few waitlisted candidates have now been offered admission to the Class of 2011, many others have been denied admission. The fact that your application remains open and active is a positive sign of the committee's continued interest in you."

I can imagine how frustrating this must be! But keep the faith! You haven't received no, as they point out, and it's a great sign!
GOOD luck!

Mayo,
I think you will get in in the end! And if not, well, UCLA is a great school and I was impressed when I visited it last December! So, you're not so badly positioned! :) Good luck!!

The number of students who apply for admission to the School is many times greater than those we can accept. It is unavoidable that we must disappoint many fine candidates."

Congratulations on the acceptance, even if you don't get into Haas there's a great backup.

I have to say this thread is a little disconcerting to me. I have a decently lower GPA in the same major (3.01), slightly higher GMAT (750, 6.0 AWA), slightly more volunteer work, and similar job experience (software engineer) while hoping to attend Columbia class of '13 or '14...your application looks great to me, I'm surprised you were not accepted!

Don't let my application and its results discourage you! What I've realized from applying and going to the UCLA admit day is that everyone is different. At the UCLA admit day, I did not meet a single person who had the same story. If your story (even if it superficially looks like mine - lots of engineers apply) speaks to the Columbia admissions committee and you've hit the numbers, you can still get it.

So I found out a French coworker of mine working in the US got accepted to Chicago Booth and is starting in Fall. I have to admit, I'm a bit jealous. I mean as jealous as someone who didn't apply to Chicago can be =P.

And then I got this email and it made me feel alllll better:

"Dear Lee:

It is my pleasure to inform you that you have been selected to receive an increased fellowship award. This award is based upon the strength of your candidacy relative to the entire applicant pool to date. Your new total will be $20,000 for the 2009-2010 academic year and $20,000 for the 2010-2011 academic year. "

$20k up to $40k having done absolutely nothing is awesome.

So Mayo, have you heard back from Haas yet or are you planning on going to Anderson? I just found out that I was accepted to the Anderson EMBA program and it would be good to see you around!

Hey mayo,

I have to ask, how soon did you get your ding from Columbia? I completed my app late January and still havn't heard back yet.

I am assuming I'm getting the rejection letter, Columbia was a long shot for me, but frankly, it's taking them a damn while to reject me.

I have a deadline to accept my fallback school, so I'm still holding on to my shred of hope.

Eric, I'm still waiting on Haas. If I end up at Anderson I'll definitely see you there!

Elmo, I just checked my emails. I submitted end of Dec and got my ding email early Mar.

Recently got promoted and designated as a HiPot, short for High Potential, at my company. That's the highest designation an employee can get and indicates the person is likely to be promoted twice in two years. Notified Haas of this information early May and waited...

May 15th was the next waitlist notification date and I'm still waitlisted. At this point, three rounds have passed and with a class of just 240, my guess is that the admit list is almost full. The waitlist at this point is probably being used as a backstop for the admits who end up turning down Haas for another choice. In other words, the chance of me getting off the waitlist is probably dependent on other admits turning down Haas.

After initial app review, interview, plus 2 waitlist rounds, it doesn't look good for my Haas chances. Next notification is in June and there's a good chance it will be a ding...
