User-friendly 56%

The table gives three factors to be considered when choosing an Internet service provider and the percent of the 1,200 respondents to a survey who cited that factor as important. If 30 percent of the respondents cited both “user-friendly” and “fast response time”, what is the maximum possible number of respondents who cited “bargain prices,” but neither “user-friendly” nor “fast response time?”

I'm used to the manhattan Overlapping sets matrix.. i was wondering if someone knew how to set up that matrix??

find people who voted only for User-friendly , tat comes dwn to 312
find people who voted only for Fast response time, tat comes dwn to 216
peple who voted for both = 360
therefore ans = 1200 -(312 + 216+ 360)

So I was able to get the correct answer, but i dont think it makes sense?

UF - 56 minus overlap with FR of 30 = 26
FR - 48 minus overlap with UF of 30 = 18

Total for UF 26 + FR 18 + UF&FR 30 = 74.

In order to maximize BP alone, we assume 0 for all other overlapping circles. That leaves us with 100-74 for BP alone, which gives answer of 1,200*26%=312.

My question is how, can BP alone be only 26% when the question stem states that BP is 42%? It doesnt logically make sense, does it?

I was not able to interpret this question at all! I suck at overlapping questions.. I really want to know if a venn diagram approach is preferable to matrix on this one!! however, you're explanation was quite good!

The 42% stated in the question includes customers choosing UF and FR also. However, the question asks about maximizing BP 'without' UF and FR.
