Masters in Management program for experience professional

Hello All

I am from India with bachelors of engineering degree and having 6+ years of experience in IT. I gave my GMAT which was my first attempt and scored poorly 560(Q48, V21), AWA(5.5) and IR(5).

I am planning to give second attempt in couple of months and hope to do well.

I wanted to do MBA(1-year duration) mostly in Europe but I am in dilemma when I see the tuition fees for most of the top schools which seems to be out of reach for me. I also checked the fees for Masters in Management programs in these same top b-schools which are considerably lower, I suppose its almost 70% of the MBA fees which made me to think to go for masters instead of MBA.

Could anyone clarify whether I am eligible for the masters program and what are be the job prospects after completing it.

The master in management degree is typically for younger applicants with less experience. The MBA is more well known and established and would be a better fit for you. If you do the MMS make sure you have a good answer to "why" because it will surly come up. And be glad that Europe hasn't adopted the 2 year MBA model that the US has.

Check out INSEAD. I think their MBA is even shorter than a year and very internationally focused.

Hi psm,

Your profile is good for an MBA but a little too experienced for the MIM program. Most MIM programs only admit very young students with up to 2 years of work experience max, however Cranfield School of Management in Britain offers a few MSC programs where many students have in excess of 3-4 years experience and many opt for the MSC programs after having completed an MBA in the past.

Europe is a sinking ship, you won't gain much out of your MBA in Europe these days until & unless you go to one of the top 5 schools there. I mean to say that your expectations will most likely not be met if you wish to stay back in Europe with a well paying job, it is just not happening & most international students are returning home. UK is struggling, Spain & Italy are dead, France together with Germany, Italy & Spain poses severe local language issues & hiring is very slow and in this dreadful economic situation, just multiply the difficulties by 5. Read my earlier posts & you would come to know why.

With your profile, I would aim at other schools in Asia pacific such as CEIBS, HKUST, HK Univ, ISB, Chinese Univ of HK, Aim, NUS, Agsm, Mbs, Monash & Nanyang. At-least the job prospects will be way better & tuition fee will be lesser. Apart from the ivy leagues in Europe, you can aim at CBS in Denmark for the MBA and SSE in Stockholm for the MSC.

MiM is not for you dude... you have way too much experience (this is a good thing!)
Instead retake the GMAT and think about an MBA.
If you are serious about it and can get a good GMAT, then you can get into a good school which should make the whole endeavor worthwhile

A pretty late reply,
But i would just like to second the opinion given by most people here.

MiM is usually for people of upto 3 years of work ex, and most colleges draw a line at candidates with 2 years of work experience. Above that amount they ask them work a little more & apply for the MBA program.

Though, this does not stop people with even 4-5 years of work ex. to apply (i have a few in my batch at ESCP) but for them its not that much of a value addition as the jobs they get upon graduation, wont be suited to their work experience level.
Hence MBA would have been a better bet.

The maximum range of work experience that i have seen a MiM college accept is from 3 months to 5 years, and that's the range accepted by the MiM program at LSE.
