The prep. programs can make you stand very close to your GMAT wished result, but the self-preparation will take you exactly to your wish. Although some people have natural tendency for being coached initially, and that's OK.
Let me share my limited experience with the Master GMAT crash course kindly offered by Geva Stern, an outstanding expert here at BTG, free of charge. When I approached Master GMAT, I had been already all the way in and out with GMAT quantitative concepts through Manhattan math series and total GMAT math by Jeff Sackman. At first, I did not go through the course entirely, as it was requiring one to be involved from the level Zero. But later, I found the course sessions to be a real help when some one like me is trying to solve all the problems there; this takes you to master and sharpen your knowledge even deeper. As I am being seemingly aware of my weaknesses and strengths in GMAT, I aspire to make the further improvements by avoiding silly mistakes and boosting my thinking process. So I chose MGMAT CATs. These may not a right choice for some one struggling to score 45+ in GMAT Prep and are certainly not the right choice to start from Zero or scratch. The Master GMAT, on the contrary, is quite adaptive, and has very different approach to GMAT preparation. Before opting this course, you should be prepared to trust in 100% of your patience and efforts to it.
Resuming what I have said above, I suggest you consult with the Master GMAT people in advance. You need to get feeling of the course, for it has different (adaptive) approach to the development of GMAT learner's skills. Geva Stern is quite accessible, and you could write him about your interest in the Master GMAT course.
note: I discussed only MGMAT CATs in this post; as such MGMAT has also foundation-, intermediate-, and advanced level courses too.
