i just did my first practice test, the one from Manhattan. I scored 640 points, but I did nearly 50% of the questions (both in quant and verbal) wrong.

i know that the GMAT is computer-adaptive, even tough I am surprised to score 640 with so many faults.... can anybody explain me this matter?

ur score depends on the difficulty of question that u answer
check ur results in mgmat..they will also show u the difficulty level of questions

I just did the GMATprep practice test. Compared with the test from Manhattan I did yesterday, I did only about 30% of the questions wrong. I scored the same 640 as yesterday with the Manhattan test, in which I did about 50% of the questions wrong.

Because I did just 30% of the questions wrong, shouldn't I received then more difficult questions?

The issue is that you are comparing two different tests. The unofficial test may have harder questions and the scoring compensates for that by giving you more credit even though you missed more questions. It also matters (a little) where in the test you missed the questions.

The GMATPrep is the one that is more predictive of your score. Missing 1/3 of the questions and getting a 640 sounds about right in my experience working with tutoring students. So I would say that you are in that range right now -- 640 plus or minus 30 points.

I agree with David. I had been taking MGMAT tests ONLY until 2 weeks ago, and recently started taking GMAT Prep Tests. I have been getting very similar scores on both tests, but my # of incorrect answers is significantly different. (MGMAT more incorrect).
Being defeated is often only a temporary condition. Giving up is what makes it permanent.
