B) Because the maestro had finished the concert and because the audience had been filtered out, he relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

C) Since the concert had been finished and the audience had filtered out, the maestro relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

D) Since the concert had finished and the audience had filtered out, the maestro had relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

E) The concert having been finished and the audience having filtered out, the maestro had relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

To show the sequence or chronological order between past events we use past perfect for the past actions that occurred earlier than some other past action. For the past action that occurred later than the earlier past actions we use simple past

The concert finished and the audience left-> past perfect
maestro relaxed-> simple past

Usually because is preferred over since but we have no choices here that reflect this.

Can you pls explain why B is wrong?

I was down to B and C. But end up chosing B.

Because the maestro had finished the concert and because the audience had been filtered out, he relaxed in the dressing room with the impresario.

Because... and because .. sounds idiomatic

AND had finished and had been finished both signifies the past event.

In B audience had been filtered out tries to convery the meaning that somebody filtered out the audience.

We have no indication in the otiginal sentence that this happenned.

C also brings out the order of the events much clearer than B.

B is wordy.

Did the maestro's relaxation have anything to do with the crowd dispersing? Not really we dont have any reason to believe so from the original sentence.

B seems to say that the meastro relaxed because:
1) concert finished
2) audience dispersed

the meastro in C is better than "he" in B

Just a few reasons to rule out B

What is wrong with D? I picked D as it follows the principle of parallelism..

I don't understand why you picked C over D when D conveys the meaning well..

I am quite skeptical about the source.Althought the answer is C and the reason is that it accurately presents the chronology of events.however,I am not entirely convinced with the use of 'since' as a replacement of 'becuase' .

Any comments?

i rejected this C only bcos "had been finished" does not sound right.....

if the following verb is had filtered past perfect

previous verb shud be had finished as its past perfect...


"had been finished does not sound right.... pls someone explain.
