one legacy of X is Y. legacy is a noun and so Y must also be a noun form.

E is out. C and D use infinitive but are not parallel in form. between A and B.

A out as "their' does not agree with "a person"
so B

I also chose B. Can you explain why C and D are not parallel in form?

antest07,
C and D are not parallel as they are not of the form "to see is to beleive"

One legacy of Madison Avenue’s recent campaign to appeal to people fifty years old and over is the realization that as a person ages, their concerns change as well.
(A) the realization that as a person ages, their - "a person" and "their" are not parallel
(B) the realization that as people age, their - CORRECT
(C) to realize that when a person ages, his or her - changes meaning from "as" to "when"
(D) to realize that when people age, their - changes meaning from "as" to "when"
(E) realizing that as people age, their - not sure why E isn't - i just think best to keep "the realization"... hmm?

Answer is B

Hi Scooby,

Can you please tell how to find out that in any given sentence "ing" form is working as verb(participle) or noun(i.e. gerund)...

like you have kicked out "E"...how can we know whether realising is a noun(gerund) or participle(verb)....

Also please once tell why in one legacy of X is Y....Y has to be noun ?...is there some grammar rule for the same ?

Thanks
Mohit

"One legacy" needs to be compared to a noun. This leaves us with either A or B, and A has issues with quantity agreement.
Have you wondered how you could have found such a treasure? -T

is there a gramatical rule that says noun has to follow noun ?

"one legacy" should reference a noun. eliminates CDE
person -> singular. eliminates A

my answer: B
