Most parents who are generous are good parents, but some self-centered parents are also good parents. Yet all good parents share one characteristic: they are good listeners.

If all of the statements in the passage are true, which one of the following must also be true?
(A) All parents who are good listeners are good parents.
(B) Some parents who are good listeners are not good parent.
(C) Most parents who are good listeners are generous.
(D) Some parents who are good listeners are self-centered.
(E) Fewer self-centered parents than generous parents are good listeners

Most generous >>>>>> good
Some self-centered >>>>>>> good

most good parents and some self centered are good listeners (hints at answer choice E)

(E) is my pick

You don't have to worry about this. You won't see it on the GMAT.

In order to solve this you have to have an understanding of conditional reasoning and diagram it.

A - The word "all" should be an indicator that this answer is incorrect. The wording is too strong and the conclusion is "good parents are good listeners" and not necessarily "good listeners are good parents".
B - This is probably true and deserves consideration but it is never fully implied anywhere.
C - The passage states that both generous and self-centered can be good parents, but not necessarily.
D - This is my choice. Some self-centered -> good parents -> all good parents -> good listeners.
E - Passage doesn't touch on ratio of self-centered to generous that are good listeners.

Option B is incorrect because, from the two given points, you can just infer who are good parents. You cannot infer anything about "who are not"

IMO D

some self-centered parents who are good parents will have the characteristic which all the good parents share : good listening ability.

D paraphrases this fact.

I would go D.

It logically follows the structure of the stimulus.

most generous / some self centered --->good parents--->good listeners.

Backtracking, some parents who are good listeners are self-centered.

E is incorrect because the NUMBER of each is never mentioned and therefore irrelevant.

D for me too. Classic set theory problem, but I was unable to draw a convincing diagram.

Can anyone illustrate here?

The GMAT is indeed adaptable. Whenever I answer RC, it proficiently 'adapts' itself to mark my 'right' answer 'wrong'.
