Hi Eric/all other Gurus,

I am not sure if you would read this post and would feel like replying to.
Anyways, I just want to feel light at heart.

I am a die-hard MBA aspirant with an average academic performance but good extra curricular activities.
I took GMAT yesterday and could score a dismal 540 with 42 Q,22V.
I am disappointed and feeling discouraged. I felt like taking the exam for years.Only this feeling has killed me.
I prepared from OG11,KAPLAN and took practice test from power prep,GMATPrep and few paper tests. My score ranged from 530-610 so I knew how would the actual exam would be but I still wanted to take the test.
My quant score ranged from 42 to 49 and my verbal ranged from 22 to 32. Just see, that I scored the least score in both the section in actual exam!!!

I am sure that I can conquer quant but verbal is my primary weakness. I have been doing well in SC(9/10 correct),not OK in CR(60% correct) and hopeless in RC(40-50% correct).

I know my weakness well. I have to work hard in verbal with emphasis on RC.

I need at least 640 to go to the school of my choice.

Now, I am again committed to take the test but will take only when my performance in GMATPrep would improve.

I can dedicate an appreciable duration of time to work on my weaknesses. I need some guidance.
What would you suggest? Which books can I read to improve? Do we have books other than those that are read by all, for example OG,Kaplan ,manhattan etc? Could the respective softcopies be availed?

Please mail me at [email protected] if this story sounds yours and I would like to know how could you bring about a change if at all.

Thanks and Regards,
hitgmat

In my opinion, to achieve a big improvement on RC and CR calls for efforts to improve your fundamentals. Start reading a lot, read different types of material, not the one that interests you. Go to the library, set a target of reading books on different topics each month. Read qualitatively- understand what you read. You should see improvement in couple of months.
