I am graduating from Weber State University in Accounting this Spring (2014). My cumulative GPA will be a 2.97 or 3.0. I have visited HBS in the past and met with a professor and feel their MBA is the right MBA for me. I love the case method. I have been told my GPA is too low. However, multiple aspects of my low GPA can be explained. I moved here from Mexico in 2001 and didn't know any english. I fulfilled a two-year service mission for my church. In college, I served in multiple boards and committees, was elected as vice president in the student association, director of arts and lectures, worked on projects with University Vice President's, and at times even held two part time jobs at a time. All while I managed to assist my family in personal matters. Thus, leading to a lower GPA. Now, I am really concerned HBS won't even look at me at all. I plan to take the GMAT in six months and my goal is to score in the 700+ range. I also believe work experience is key. Is doing all this even worth it? Do you have any other recommendations as to what I can do to increase my chances? And does my 2.97-3.0 GPA even give me a chance?
