I think it should be A

We need to know if r/(b+w+r)>w/(b+w+r)?

that is r^2+rb+rw>wb+w^2+wr (cross multiply the denominators)

or in short r^2+rb>wb+w^2?

St 1: r/(b+w) > w/(b+r)

Cross multiply the denominator you'll get
rb+r^2>w^2+wb----SUFF

St 2: b -w > r
Not suff to prove if r^2+rb>wb+w^2 since we dont know if r>w or not. INSUFF.

Greay approach to solve a DS...Simply what question is really asking!

Text book explanation.

This was actually my first question in the GMAT prep test and I spent a good amount of time ( HORRIBLE IDEA ) to make sure that the answer is A but not D.


Folks,

Be prepered to hit by a tough question as a first question. This is like a good first second punch when a boxing game starts. Try not to be knocked out..you still have 36 more rounds!!

I know...The software is more clever than I thought It was..But Cramya, seriously it happened to me before. You start a test with a toughy and you need to stay strong. I always remeber Stacey's tennis game explanation. Sometimes GMAT can score a good point we should say..good point and move on.

I dont doubt u a bit. I was just pulling your leg for funsake...

Wow, thats quite a tricky first Question!

Since, its all positive number, we can cross multiply to get A and then for B I just tested out some numbers to prove B can be ambiguous.

Now, how about the same question (not marbles, but just any numbers), if we DONT KNOW that all the numbers are positive...
