Hi,
I'm 23 years old, a Senior at Cal Stat Fullerton, double majors in Finance and Accounting.

1.My Cumulative GPA is 3.95, and my Major GPAs are 4.0. I will graduate from the Honor Business Program in May 09.

2. GPA: I haven't taken this. Yet, the practice is around 650-700.

3. Working experience: since I am an international student, I cannot work legal in the US. Yet, my family has been running a logistic business in my home country. Since the day I came here to study, I have been acting like a representative for our business. I don't know if this can count as working experience.
Also, I have experience working as Research Assistant for my Marketing Professor, who is a Northwestern MBA program Alumni. He will write me a LOR. We are working on a project, and with little experience in research before, we have put together a project that is chosen to be presented in the Marketing Education Association coming conference.

4. Leadership and volunteering: I've been active in many student organizations and hold couple chair positions. Moreover, since I can't work legally, I have been volunteering in Accounting and Finance field with local company.

Based on my profile, would you please evaluate my chance to get into top 50 MBA program?

Best Regards,

Dear jackiele,

Based on the limited information provided, I think you have the foundation for a competitive application to a top 50 MBA program. However, I think you should probably work for a few years prior to applying. It is possible you could gain admission at a school with less than two years experience, but most schools would prefer you worked at least two years after graduating from college. While the work you have been doing with your family business and the professor is important and will be evaluated, years of work experience is defined as full-time, professional work after completing a bachelor's degree.

Best of luck,
Lisa

Is it the right time to apply?

by nitinpahuja » Mon Mar 30, 2009 8:22 pm
HI Lisa

I am Nitin from India. Could you kindly help me shortlist some B-Schools that i can apply to this year(Batch Starting 2010) with a score of around 700 in the GMAT. Here is a snapshot of my profile. Kindly advise me whether I should try this year or wait for another year so that I have significant work ex. My primary targets are ISB, CEIBS, NUS and NANYANG. I am also considering MSC ( Management) Options at LSE, HEC and other institutions under the CEMS.

Waiting another is a problem because of the financial stability of the family.
