IMO D

Part is singular, so we need the word unit. Evolves and assumes are parallel.

IMO D.

D over E because, in D evolves over X and Y .. the X and Y describes various mechanisms .. whereas in E .. even .. eventually describes various mechamisms .. whereas it should point to the subject .. which is 'Part of .. '.

What is the source for this question?

I think that "part" does not have any relation with "word unit" or "word units". I think both B and D are grammatically correct.

nonunderlined part says its original semantic meaning, where 'its' refers to 'word unit', so it can't be plural.

D and E left. Can anybody explain why D is better than E

Narrowed down to D and E.
I chose E over D as D breaks the parallelism. "evolves...assumes...acquiring".
E on the other hand maintains that.

Though part of is singular it is not necessary that we must have word unit and not word units

Ok, now I got this sentence after selecting A. I was wrong and think D is correct answer.

As per my previous post, though part of is singular it can take word unit or word units. However, in case of this sentence it must take word unit. How to decide whether unit or units, see non underlined part of the sentence. It has 'its' in it and this its decides about unit or units. Unit is correct here. Eliminate A,B and C

Out of D and E, D maintains the parallelism, so D is correct

OA is E

But I feel it should be D, E breaks parallelism because of ''it acquires''. It should be only 'acquire'
