Pam and Ed are in a line to purchase tickets. How many people are in the line?
(1) There are 20 people behind Pam and 20 people in front of Ed.
(2) There are 5 people between Pam and Ed.
OA is E

I said C....I dont know why it is E, I feel like you know am and ed are in line, (1) tells us there are 40 other ppl, but you dont know how many are in between the two ppl. thus insufficient.

(2) is also insufficient because you dont know the amount of ppl in front or behind each of the ppl....

But combined you know 20 ppl are behind Pam, 20 ppl are in front of ed, and 5 ppl are between Pam and Ed, giving you a total of 47 ppl in line.

Depends on their positions.

Draw it out.

20<------Pam---5---Ed------>20 Total=45 + (pam & ed)=47

Or

14<-----Ed---5----P------->14 Total=33 + (pam & ed)=35

Hence, E.

Btw, even if you screw up 14 and put 15 instead (which I did initially, forgetting pam and ed) you would still get E. Main point of the question is to make you realize there are 2 possible positions they could be in.
