Can like be followed by noun phrase ?

Like swimming in pool, swimming in river can be equally easy ..

The above sentence is correct.
Swimming, which is a gerund is used for comparison using like.
As long as we are comparing two nouns, like can be used.

"Like" is similar to a preposition. We ALWAYS use it before a noun or a pronoun for comparison.
e.g. You look like your sister. (NOT...as your sister)
Like his brother, he is a vegetarian.
