Here, the Statue of Liberty's and its are redundant.
It would be sufficient to say the following:
the defects in the Statue of Liberty's supporting structure.
Eliminate A, B and C.

D: its supporting structure that led to its deterioration
Here, the that-clause in red seems to modify its supporting structure, implying that ITS SUPPORTING STRUCTURE led to its deterioration.
The intended meaning is that THE DEFECTS led to its deterioration.
Eliminate D.

E: the Statue of Liberty which
On the GMAT, NOUN + which is always wrong.
Eliminate E.

There is no correct answer here.
Ignore this SC.

Hi Mitch,

I found this questions in one of the Book from an Indian GMAT prep coaching Institute. It seems that the sentence might have appeared pen-paper based tests.

"Engineers have corrected the defects in the statue's supporting structure that led to its deterioration."


Correct me if I am wrong.

Since this sentence is not among the five answer choices posted above, it is not relevant.
The source of this sentence seems to be the NY Times:

The SC posted above does not have a correct answer.
