Hi,
I have a question about letters of reference. I will ask my current direct supervisor to write a letter on my behalf. For my second letter, I'm less sure. I had a great working relationship with my prior boss, but we last worked together in 2007. Is that too long in the past?
Thanks,
B

Since then have you been working for your current boss? Then No, it's not a problem.
But if there is some other person you can go to for the period in between, then you should go to that person.
At the end of the day, go to people who will talk (well) about you and are willing to write recommendations for you.

Vineesh,
Just telling you what I know and think. I am not the expert.

It's not too long in the past, especially if he likes you a lot, and knows you well. Actually it's important to choose recommenders who a) will give an insight on different parts of your life b)who are super excited to recommend you.
There's other considerations too, but that's a good place to start.

Choosing optimal recommenders is a relative exercise meaning that we would have to know your other choices to gauge whether this particular recommender is the best option for you.
