Lengths of the sides of right triangle

Post Sat May 10, 2014 6:16 pm
Hello,

Can you please tell me how to solve this:

For right triangle JKL, side KL has a length of 60 meters. If JK > JL, which of the following could represent the lengths of sides JK and JL? Make one selection in each column.

JK JL
24
30
36
48
60
90

OA: JK = 48 and JL = 36

Thanks a lot,
Sri

Hi Sri,

When a GMAT question is built around a right triangle, it's usually one of the special right triangles. With a side length of 60, I don't know if KL is the hypotenuse of the right triangle or not. 60 IS a multiple of 5 though….

In a 3/4/5 right triangle, if the "5 side" = 60, then the two other sides would be….

36 and 48, which both appear in the options.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
