Hello SmarpanGamt,SmarpanGamt wrote:Please explain for option( A)
(A) is incorrect because it's a sentence fragment. To better analyze the sentence, ignore "the recovery of copper from the drainage water of mines" because this portion only severs the purpose of describing "Leaching" Thus A is saying:
- "Leaching as a method of the extraction, it was well established in the 18th, but until recently minors did not realize x"
Hope that helps,
-Patrick

Could somebody explain why the usage of HAD is wrong in this sentence.
Because we have mentioned dates that makes the time line clear. Is it a general rule when we mentioned dates or time frame, we need not to have HAD in the sentence to make the time of the actions clear.
Please help on this.

I also thinks its E
in c one another problem is it is kind of run off sentence
extraction of minerals well established as early as
it was not extrating of mineral that was established in xxx
but
it was method that was well established...
so c changes the meaning
and
it also says this method is no longer valid...why to change the whole tense and meaning ...method may be still valid as original sentence suggest
so E looks good

Nothing in the original sentence states or implies that leaching is no longer used as a method of mineral extraction.
On the contrary, leaching was well-established as early as the 18th century (again, nothing here indicates that it was no longer used after the early 18th century). 25 years ago, miners learned that bacteria plays a role in the leaching process. This doesn't mean that leaching hasn't been used in the past 25 years. It only means that miners learned something new about leaching.

yes but i think it can be mitigated ...(it can be considered it is no longer used...nothing it sentence denies it either)tomada wrote:Nothing in the original sentence states or implies that leaching is no longer used as a method of mineral extraction.

Perfect.. thats the reason why C is correct and E is not... good question...tomada wrote:Nothing in the original sentence states or implies that leaching is no longer used as a method of mineral extraction.
