Yes,
1 suggests that a tasty cake would not last i.e. it would definitely finish, nothing left :) in a room full of hungry children
2 suggests that a tasty cake would finish soon (not only it would finish, it would finish very soon :) ) in a room full of hungry children
(or if i am there ;) )
