Regarding your question, I believe its a modifier type question.

Theoretically, water could remain in liquid form indefinitely in extremely low-energy environments, prevented from evaporating its molecules as a result of an insufficient level of kinetic energy present in the molecules on the liquid's surface.

Theoretically, water could X, prevented from Y as a result of an insufficient level of kinetic energy present in the molecules on the liquid's surface.

OR

prevented from Y as a result of an Z, water could X.

As you can see
first clear issue is - "prevented", it seems to indicate that water was prevented first and then something happened.

Second clear issue is - "as a result of" --> It just doesn't sound good.

On the base of -


(A)prevented from evaporating its molecules as a result of
Out based on first issue.
(B)prevented from having its molecules evaporated by
Out based on first issue.
(C)its molecules prevented from evaporating by
Out of C and D, C is ofcourse more concise and clear than D.
(D)its molecules prevented from being evaporated as a result of

(E)preventing its molecules from evaporating by
It seems to indicate that water could remain in liquid form in order to prevent its molecule.

Please follow the sense of the argument. A and B mean to say the "water wanted to evaporate its molecules but somebody prevented it from doing so". Since water is non-living thing, this does not make sense. E means that water is preventing its molecules from evaporation. This is again wrong.

Out of C and D?

As a rule, avoid the use of being in GMAT. D is too wordy.

C is appropriate and correctly conveys the message that low level of kinetic energy prevented its molecules from evaporation.
