It's a while since i posted on the Knewton referral topic. In the meanwhile i have enrolled for the program. Today I just got a mail that says the referral period has been extended to the 28th of Feb. Shameless plug: Feel free to pm me if you would like me to refer you since I have already joined the class.
But before that let me give you a couple of first impressions of the classes.
- The online classes are pretty intense. The sessions I have chosen last for about 3 hours in the evenings on weekdays. Perhaps this might not be enough time to assimilate everything in the classroom but it's the time outside the 'classroom' that matters. Knewton does have plenty of practice material and that's a good thing.
- The method followed by Knewton uses a deconstruction approach that is similar to MGMAT. Both rely on breaking down Official Guide kind of questions and getting you used to the type of questions/traps with different sets of values/numbers. Though I haven't come across any material in Knewton that makes a direct mention of the Official Guide question like MGMAT does in it's books. A small caveat, for those of you who like your prep material in the form of books (good old paper) you might take some time to getting used to the Knewton material. At Knewton everything is about docs,pdfs and videos. Perhaps green is the sign of the time!
- The really nice thing about Knewton is the extensive practice material that shows you the questions you got wrong and the link with materials to the associated topic that is tested on the GMAT . As a result you can narrow down your areas of weakness and at the same time immediately revise/brush up on your test taking material. Think of it like taking a number of mini tests on specific topics before the real thing.
- I haven't taken any practice tests from Knewon as yet so I cannot really comment on the type of questions and their level of difficulty. But going by the material they have on the site I think it should be good.
