KFC : Original Recipe Chicken Bucket

Expert replies
by Aman verma » Tue Feb 09, 2010 4:31 am
Q : Colonel Sanders once decided to distribute 180 Buckets of original recipe chicken among 36 customers . But he gave n buckets to a customer of nth row and there were same number of customers in each row . Thus he distributed all his 180 buckets among his customers. The number of customers in (n-1)th row was :

a)2

b)3

c)4

d)5

e)6

Note:Some people might argue that why colonel Sanders distribute Original recipe chicken when there are so many flavours availble with KFC like Hot and Crispy etc? Also some people may ask : Were the buckets regular sized or large sized, were French fries served alongwith, were the Fries regular sized or large sized,was Pepsi also given,Was sauce given with the chicken,was the sauce mint or salsa,If the sauce was mint was it from freshly chopped mint or frozen and so on........... For such interesting questions I am not the concerned person,please contact KFC Corporation ,Louisville,Kentucky,U.S.A.

Haha..very funny question indeed.(Hey everyone,check out the bold-faced part)

As for the question,
let the no. of customers in each row be x.
Let there be n rows.
In 1st row,he gave x buckets
In 2nd row,2x buckets.
.................
.............
....
In nth row, n*x buckets.

=> x(1 + 2 + 3 + .......... +(n-1) + n ) = 180
=>x*[n(n+1)/2] = 180
=>(nx)(n+1) = 360 - (1)
Also, (36/n) = x or nx = 36 - (2)
From 1 & 2,
we get n=9

Solving we get,
Hence x=36/9 = 4 C.

Just because something is hard doesn't mean you shouldn't try,it means you should just try harder.
