Kaplan Wedding

by KapTeacherEli » Tue Oct 12, 2010 8:45 am
Hi Everyone,

Five years ago, an annoying girl I didn't really like asked me about Kaplan. More out of greed than goodwill, I explained that Kaplan was a great company and that they were looking for good teachers, and if she applied could she mention my name because there was a hiring bonus?

A few months later, after she completed her training and started her first class, the $100 check arrived. I figured the right thing to do would be to take this 'Shari' lady out to a (cheap) dinner to thank her. So, after martial arts practice, we headed over to a local noodle place, where we ate and talked.

And talked.

And talked.

Too much happened in the five years since then to recount in a single post, but suffice it to say that a shared love of teaching was one of the many things that let our love for each other grow out of disdain. We would share horror stories but also advice, I helping her out with tricky math and she aiding me with her prodigious vocabulary. We were happy when Shari cross-trained for the GRE so we could work out of the same center, excited when a tutoring student asked to split her hours between the two of us, and overjoyed when Shari's Kaplan experience helped her secure a scholarship to Boston University's school of Education.

Since Kaplan and test-prep has been such a large part of our lives together, we wanted to share a part of our lives with all of you preparing for a test. Please enjoy our wedding album, and I wish all of you the same joy that Shari and I are sharing.
