The question is about RaTe:
Mist= 100people * X(number of days it would last)
Elizabeth = 1000 * Y

Now if you apply stmnt 1 and 2 we can answer the question
Hence D.
Let me knowif u need further help

Stem gives us the knowledge that :

Assume 100 litres are there for Journey in Mist of Maid for 100 people for 100 days; For 25 people ,100 lires can be consumed for 400 days

100* 100* 100 = 25 *100 * 400

Maximum percent extension of duration = (400-100)/100
= 300 %
St 1:Journey extended only by 50%.

Clearly it is understood that 300%>50% and Moreover o stem says only One Ship can sustain the journey
Sufficient

Assume 100 litres are there for Journey in Qfor 1000 people for 1000 days; For 200 people ,1000 lires can be consumed for 5000 days

Maximum percent extension of duration = 5000 -1000/1000
= 400%
Stem says duration has extended by 500 % which is clear that Q has to starve for drinking water.

Piock D

The total quantity of water that was estimated to be used could be represented as a product of two quantities: (i) No. Of days of journey, (ii) quantity of water consumed per day (by all people considered as one unit). We could write this as:
V = D *Q
Statement one says that new D is one-fourth of original D. So, ship could sustain at max, an increase of 4Q. But the increase is only 1.5Q. Clearly, water supply in "Maid Of the Mist" was surplus.

Statement two could similarly mean that "Queen Elizabeth" just about managed to provide enough water for its passangers. I don't think it ran out of water. The question doesn't state an increase of 500%, just that new value is 5 times the old value. So this ship didn't have any water remaining. Sufficient.
