I took a few Kaplan tests before my official GMAT. I would say that the scores were off. Their scoring algorithm was off, but they said they have since corrected it. In terms of difficulty, I actually thought that Kaplan math was easier and the verbal was about the same. The style of the questions are really different though, so that may play into why you're finding the Kaplan material more difficult.
