Kaplan Question

Hi guys,

I have problem with this logic questions.

Kevin is paid more than Sharon. But since Cecili is paid more than Larry, it follows that Kevin's salary is higher than Larry's

Each of the following, if introduced into the argument as an additional premise, makes the argument above logically correct EXCEPT:

-Cecilia is paid more than Kevin.
-Sharon is paid more that Larry
-Sharon's salary is higher than Cecilia's
-Sharon and Cecilia are paid the same
-Kevin and Cecilia are paid the same

Answers is C, but I don't have a clue why.

Logically Logical Answer

The answer is wrong ..It should be A.

Logic follows: According to the question.
K>S , C>L
hence K>L.

I hope u can understand the alphabets.It is the first letter of each one's name.

Hence the options to make it logically correct are:

A.C>K
This is not proved since if C>L and C>K then K may or may not be greater than L
B.S>L
This is correct since: K>S and S>L .hence K>L
C.S>C
This is correct since: K>S and C>L ..hence S>C obviously means S>L and hence K>L (since K>S)
D.S=C
This is correct since K>S = K>C and C>L whiche means K>L
E.K=C
This is correct since C>L = K>L

The correct answer is hence A

Only the additional premise C resolves the argument -

c) K > S (GIVEN) ---------------- 1
S > C (ANS CHOICE C) -------------2
C > L (GIVEN) --------------- 4
-------------------------------
K > L (CONCLUSION WHICH IS ALSo GIVEN)

FROM 1 & 2 YOU CAN DEDUCE - K > C ---------- 3

NOW FROM 3 & 4 YOU CAN DEDUCE K > L WHICH IS THE CONCLUSION. NO OTHER ANSWER CHOICE WOULD LEAD YOU TO K > L AS CONCLUSION. HTH.
