Hi friends,

Took the first two CAT tests of Kaplan. Scored 740 on CAT 1 and 700 on CAT 2. I am finding the comprehension passages and critical reasoning difficult to handle and that primarily is effecting my score. Suggest how to handle this ? I don't want to lose on the main day. Took a few others from the TMH book. Found the verbal part easy there though.

If you can answer a few question, I'd be happy to advise:

1) How long have you been studying and which specific resources have you been using?
2) What is your process for dealing with RC and CR questions now?
3) When do you plan on taking the real GMAT?

Hi,

I started my preparations in November last year. Starting with the Manhattan Sentence correction book and finished the princetonreview verbal practice book. After than I completed the Kaplan premier and the official GMAT guide to conclude with.

So, the materials that I have completed are :

1. Official GMAT guide 13th edition.
2. Kaplan GMAT premier 13th edition.
3. Manhattan sentence correction.
4. Princeton Review.
5. I have also tried out some of the questions available online for free.
6. TMH Practice material for GMAT.

I found the CR and RC very tough in the kaplan tests but recovered myself with the Princeton CAT test. However, I got 35/41 right in the princeton test verbal section for a score of 37. I have been able to maintain my steady with the IR and the Math part. I am scared. I may lose ground. Currently I have scores of 740,700(kaplan), 710(Princeton) and did steadily with the TMH material. However, lost some grounds on verbal part even on the last practice tool of the TMH practice.

There is a huge scope for improvement I reckon when it comes to verbal. Please guide me. I can score a good score in GMAT but I fear. My GMAT on July 3

Hi Arnab,

You're scoring at a really high level right now, so I'm curious about why you're planning to wait until July to take your GMAT?

What schools are you planning to apply to? And when are you planning to apply?

In regards to your CATs, I have a few more specific questions:

1) What were your Scaled Scores for the Quant and Verbal sections?
2) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT every time (or did you skip the essay and/or IR sections)?
3) Did you take any of these CATs more than once?

I need to fix the RC part. Can you advise ?
I am aiming at a score as close as possible to 800. Want to go to USA in a good university(aiming the top 30).

Yes, I take the test at a length. No breaks. Just once.

Please advise on the RC part seriously !

Hi arnabm2007,

Based on your last post, I can offer some perspective. I'll still need some more information about your practice CAT scores though.

A goal to "score as close as possible to 800" is too vague to be meaningful. It also doesn't let you know when you should stop. Your practice CAT scores are high enough right now that if they were Official GMAT scores then you could comfortably apply to any US Business School and have a reasonable chance of getting in (assuming the rest of your application was strong enough).

Can you provide the Quant and Verbal Scaled scores for each of your practice CATs? While you're clearly focused on RC, there might be some other areas in which you could be picking up points.
