Kaplan Free Test Scoring

Hi all,

I just finished the free online Kaplan test and scored 670 (42Q/44V). Several people suggest in the "Best Practice Tests" thread above this test's scoring is somewhat inaccurate. I'm trying to gauge my progress, so does anybody know if this particular test scores lower or higher than a comparable GMATPrep test and, if so, by how much? Thanks.

I think that the test is usually a bit lower than GMATPrep tests. I scored a 670 on one of the Kaplan tests as well, and then after studying for another two weeks scored a 720 on a GMATPrep test. I don't know if you'll see that much of a jump, but from the results of others that I've seen online I'd say you'll probably see at least a little jump.

Thanks. I actually scored a 720 each on Powerprep #1 and GMAT Prep #1, a 710 on MGMAT #1 and 690 on MGMAT #2 over the past couple of weeks (and I have been studying since). I'm just not sure if my score truly declined on the Kaplan test or if they tend to undercut by 50 points or so as some people have suggested. I want to move forward, now backward!

Just wanted to point out one more thing- don't give too much credit to your practice test scores. If you do worse on one its not that you went backward- there could be a number of factors that caused a lower score. What really matter is to just continue learning from your mistakes.

There are 2 Kaplan tests. One is CD test, which is rather old, and other is Kaplan online test. Please have a look at the thread to get an idea what exactly I am referring to,

I believe you took Kaplan online test. This is the latest edition that Kaplan has introduced in the market after getting much criticism for their past tests. Experts generally say that if you are scoring X in Kaplan OLD CD based tests then you can assume that you will score X+100 in GMAT.

I recently took Kaplan online version of the test and found it little less difficult than GMATPrep, but scoring algorithm is good.

I am curious about PowerPrep tests. I don't know where to find PowerPrep that is older version of GMATPrep I assume. Please let me know the link to download the same..Thanks

Yes, I was referring to the online "free" Kaplan test. I also thought it was less difficult than GMATPrep or MGMAT. I'm taking weekly tests to assess my progress (if any), which is why the score's accuracy is important to me.

I found a PowerPrep download by searching these forums. It is available here: https://www.gorillatestprep.com/gmat_resources.html

The look and feel of PowerPrep is different (more antiquated) than GMATPrep and it seemed that the questions were a little easier, but I couldn't tell for sure. Either way, it's good free practice.

Hi All,

I too gave Kaplan free test available on kaplan's site...
I got 670 (Q47/39V)... But when I was solving quant, I knew this is surely not what I will be getting in the exam as quant was a bit on easier side.
Also, I got only 2 wrong in quant out of 37 and still got only 47.
Also, in the thread below, kaplan teacher says that the free test is not adaptive...

I think I will have to purchase the Kaplan premier live online book that will allow me to give 4 computer adaptive tests...

Today i took the Kaplan online free diagnostic test and i got a 700 . Surprisingly i got only 21 correct in Quant and 20 correct in verbal . I did not expect to get 700 with such low accuracy but after i got first 10 questions correct on quant there were only Hard questions till the end . Verbal too was Hard all the way . Moreover i can't see sectionwise scaled scores in the result....help please
