12TEN is a way of managing the answer choices in DS.

(B) 2 alone (but not 1) is sufficient

(D) E ach of 1 and 2 is sufficient

So, for example, if you're working on a DS problem, and you see that (1) is sufficent (but you haven't yet analyzed (2)), right away you know the correct answer has to state that (1) alone is sufficient so the answer will be A or D.

In fact, using 12TEN, if you want, you can dispense with A, B, C, D, and E entirely because the answer choices on the computer screen are just bubbles that don't actually have the letter beside them.
