For each landscaping job that takes more than 4 hours, a certain contractor charges a total of r
dollars for the first 4 hours plus 0.2r dollars for each additional hour or fraction of an hour, where
r > 100. Did a particular landscaping job take more than 10 hours?
(1) The contractor charged a total of $288 for the job.
(2) The contractor charged a total of 2.4r dollars for the job.
A. Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (2) alone is not sufficient.
B. Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but statement (1) alone is not sufficient.
C. BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is
sufficient.
D. EACH statement ALONE is sufficient.
E. Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient.

all we know is r>100
r can be 101 or 1000000000000000
so we can not get the ans

if

would have been
(1) The contractor charged a total of $210 for the job.
D would have been ok

or

if r < 100
thn D is ok
but with r>100
IMO D can not be the answer

Pl check for any typo in values

I think it is D. A should be sufficient.

Stem says that r>100. So, for 11 hours it should be greater than $240 i.e. (100 + 6*0.2*100). A says it is $288.

A small correction
(100 + 7*0.2*100).
because its 11 hours......
A says it is $288.
Now let us try to negate your claim with another example....

r = 200

now for 11 hours it will be

200 + 40*7
480
less than 288

I am confused here.

With (1) if we can caculate time < 10 hours then its D)

The question says did the job take more than 10 hours? Whether its less than 10 or more than 10 we can still answer the question.

The question does not say wiht (1) prove its greater than 10

Correct me if I am msiatken? Thanks!
