Option A - INCORRECT.
The use of '','' was missing after the first introduction of the effort of king Alfred which was use to introduce him.

Option B - INCORRECT.
This option would have been the most suitable, but, the use of '','' was missing also after 886. A pause was suppose to be observe there before a continuation of the sentence.

Option C - INCORRECT
However the use of ''that'' would have make this sentence a complete one. But now since its missing, it makes it sound unrealistic.

Option D - CORRECT.
This sentence is simple and well explanatory, from the introduction to the finishing it has maintained a good use of sentence formation and punctuation in the right places where needed.

Option E - INCORRECT.
Unfortunately, using the word ''just'' to explain a person's effort is not favoring, no matter how little the effort is it was worth it. So therefore, this option is not in line with the subject description.
