Julie bought 2 adult tickets, 1 child ticket, and 1 senior ticket to an amusement park. She received 30% off the adult tickets and 15% off the child and senior tickets. Was the total amount of the 4 discounts greater than 20% of the sum of the regular prices of the 4 tickets?

1) The original price of an adult ticket was $48, the original price of the senior ticket was $24, and the original price of the child ticket was less than the senior ticket.

Let adult ticket = a; child ticket = c; and senior ticket = s


a = 2, c = 1, s = 1
Total ticket = 4


Discount on a = 30% of a's price
Discount on c = 15% on c's price
Discount on s = 15% on s' price


Target question => Was the total amount of the 4 discounts greater than 20% of the sum of the regular price of the 4 tickets?
i.e (discount on a + discount on c + discount on s > 20% of (regular price of a + regular price os c + regular price of s)


Statement 1 => The original price of an adult ticket was $48, the original price of the senior ticket was $24 and the original price of the child's ticket was less than the senior ticket


The regular price of a = $48
The regular price of s = $24
The minimum value of the regular price of c = $23.99 because it is less than the regular price of s so it is apparently $24

Amount of the 4 discount = (2 * 30% * 48) + (1 * 15% * 24) + (1 * 15% * 24)
= 28.8 + 3.6 + 3.6 = 36
20% of the sum of all regular price = 20% * (48 + 24 + 24)
= 20% * 96 = 19.2
= 19

The total amount of the 4 discounts is greater than 20% of the sum of the regular prices of the 4 tickets
Statement 1 is SUFFICIENT


Statement 2 => The original price of the child ticket was $12
Regular price of c = $12. There is no information about the regular price of a and s so the target question cannot be evaluated. Statement 2is NOT SUFFICIENT

Since only statement 1 is SUFFICIENT,
