Let regular price = r
Discount = 10% of r
Selling price = (100 - 10) = 90% of r
If Joey purchases an item for $99
Therefore, 90% of r = 99
0.9r = 99
r = 99/0.9 = $110

Answer: E

Solution:

We can let n = the regular price of the item and create the equation:

0.9n = 99

n = 99/0.9 = 110
