If Jim earns x dollars per hour, it will take him 4 hours to earn exactly enough money to purchase a particular jacket. If Tom earns y dollars per hour, it will take him exactly 5 hours to earn enough money to purchase the same jacket. How much does the jacket cost?

(1) Tom makes 20% less per hour than Jim does.

(2) x + y = $43.75

Is it D

Is the OA = D?

Jim makes x$/ hr and works for 4 hr
Then total money jim makes= 4x

Tom makes y 4/hr and works for 5 hrs
Then total money tome makes = 5y

Let price of jacket = k

Then according to Question,
4x = 5y = k

it follows 4x = 5y
x= 5/4 y ----> 1

st 1: y = 0.8x
Substitute in eqn 1 and solve for x and then 4x = jackets price.
Sufficent

St2. x+y= 43.75 subst eqn 1 in this eqn and solve and then 4x = jackets price.

therefore D.

IMO B.

For JIM total amopunt of the shirt= 4*x (he ears x dollars for 4 hours .. this is enough to get him a shirt).

similary for TOM total amopunt of the shirt = 5*y

cost of the t shirt is going to be same so

4*x = 5*y.
question implies ===> x\y = 5\4.

option 1 says : y = ( 80/100) * x

try pluggin in option 1 into the question.
You wil not get a solution. every thing cancels out :)

Thats why it cant be D
