Jasmine runs in the park every day. She runs at a constant pace around the perimeter of a small flower patch. The patch has the shape of a triangle whose sides are 20, 20, and 10 meters long. Jasmine starts the jog from point A of the triangle and runs in the direction of the arrow in the figure above. She completes her jog 50 seconds later, after running along 16 sides of the patch. At what speed does Jasmine run in meters per second?

A. 4.6
B. 4.8
C. 5.2
D. 5.4
E. 5.6

The OA is D.

To complete 16 sides of the patch, Jasmine has to run 5 times the perimeter of the triangle and cover additional side AB once.
total distance covered = 5∗(20+20+10)+20
= 270 m
time taken = 50 sec

speed = 270/50
= 5.4 m/s.

Please, can anyone explain another way to solve this PS question? Thanks!

Side 1 = 20 m
Side 2 = 20 m
side 3 = 10 m
Time taken = 50s
She ran through 16 sides
$$Therefore,\ \frac{16}{3}=\ 5\ r\ 1$$
$$Speed\ =\ ??\ \frac{dis\tan ce}{timetaken}$$
Distance = (Perimeter of triangle * 5) + side 1
NOTE ; following Jasmine direction, she moved all the three sides in 5times + 1 attention side which will be side 1 = 16 sides.
Distance = ([20+20+10] *5) + 20
= 250 + 20 = 270m
$$Speed\ =\frac{270m}{50s}$$
$$=\ 54ms^{-1}$$
Correct Answer is Option D.

She runs 16 sides of the triangle. 3 sides correspond to 50 meters. Now by running 5 times around the triangular park, she covers 15 sides. For the 16th side we have to add 20 meters stretch to 5* 50 meters stretch she already covered.

Total distance covered = 5* 50 + 1 *20 = 270 meters in 50 seconds.

Therefore her average speed = total distance/ total time = 270 mtrs / 50 sec = 5.4 m/s.

Since the perimeter of the triangular patch is 20 + 10 + 20 = 50 meters and it has 3 sides, when Jasmine runs along 16 sides of the patch, she has run the perimeter of the patch 5 times and 1 more side, AB, which is 20 meters. Therefore, she has run 5 x 50 + 20 = 270 meters, and her speed is:

270/50 = 27/5 = 5.4 m/s
