Equal amounts of water were poured into 2 empty jars of different cappacities, which made one jar 1/4 full and the other jar was 1/3 full. If the water in the jar with lesser capacity is then poured into the jar with the greater capacity, what fraction of the larger jar will be filled with water?

1> 1/7
2> 2/7
3> 1/2
4> 7/12
5> 2/3

1/2 I think

The amounts of water are equal so if you pour water from one jar to the other you are doubling the amount of water. So 2 * 1/4 = 1/2

I generally pick numbers for these kinds of problems. Seems easier to me.

You have a larger jar (12 gallons or whatever units you want) and a smaller jar (9 gals.)

So you put the same amount of liquid into both, let's use 3

so 3/12 = 1/4 and 3/9 = 1/3

you pour the additional 3 from your smaller jar to your larger jar.

you get 6/12 or 1/2
